Bild reports that Borussia Dortmund’s pre-season trip to Japan is shaping up to be highly lucrative, despite a 1-0 defeat to Cerezo Osaka.

After that loss yesterday, the tour moves on to FC Tokyo, with the game scheduled for Saturday, 1 August.

Dortmund are earning around €5 million from the visit, largely through revenue from friendlies, with extra fees from sponsorship appearances.

Beyond the pitch, the club’s hierarchy are working to secure additional sponsors during the trip.

Talks are underway with major local companies, including Panasonic and Mitsubishi, and the prospective deals are said to be worth millions of euros a year.
