It’s been some of the biggest news surrounding Liverpool that their three biggest stars are out of contract at the end of the season and with Trent Madrid-bound, the Reds have been eager for some positive news.
After Liverpool’s loss at Craven Cottage, Virgil Van Dijk gave an update on his contract situation, hinting that a renewal could be on the cards.
“There is progress, yeah. These are internal discussions and we’ll see”.
The Liverpool captain will be 34 in July but is still playing his best football at the Reds, contributing to Liverpool’s 13 clean sheets this season.
“I love the club, I love the fans and they were there for us again and we wanted to reward them at Fulham.”
James Pearce of The Athletic noted that “the tone was different when Van Dijk spoke to reporters on Sunday. He stopped short of providing any guarantees but the fact he mentioned that progress had been made in discussions felt significant. Internally at Liverpool, there’s long since been a confidence that an agreement would be reached”.
If Liverpool are able to tie Van Dijk and Salah down to new contracts, Arne Slot will have an immense platform to build upon and, hopefully, add to.

At the opposite end of the field, it sounds like Mohamed Salah is finally set to sign an extension with Sacha Tavolieri reporting “Mohamed Salah has reached an agreement in principle with Liverpool Football Club to extend his adventure until June 2027.”
Both Sky Sports and The Athletic have confirmed that the Egyptian King “participated last week filming with the English club’s communications team.”
Of course, the deal isn’t yet set in stone, but with Salah “giving the green light” to move forward with negotiations after discussions with FSG, it looks likely that the Premier League title won’t be the only thing Reds fans will be celebrating come the end of the season.
FSG was not planning on renewing the contract of Mohamed Salah initially, but with the reports of Trent’s transfer and Van Dijk still far from an agreement, FSG wanted to send a message to Reds fans regarding their ambitions for the future.
It is also reported that Salah would accept a pay cut in exchange for a lengthier contract extension to stay at Anfield. The winger recently rejected monumental offers from Saudi Arabia, opting to retain his legacy in Liverpool despite rumoured salaries of up to ten times the amount he currently receives.

Hopefully, we will receive some more concrete contract updates but for now, it’s sounding good, Reds!
