Rayan Kolli could yet leave Queens Park Rangers this summer, but Jonathan Varane's future appears to be clearer...

Queens Park Rangers are building an impressive team under Julien Stephan but a further transfer update has emerged and Rayan Kolli could leave the club before the deadline.

QPR's summer recruitment has been mightily impressive, with the club seemingly targeting their problem areas without significantly weakening the squad ahead of a tough Championship season in the process.

Calum Ward and Pierce Charles have strengthened the goalkeeping department, while Dennis Cirkin and Boy Kemper have added quality at left-back and Tariq Lamptey provides another option on the right. In midfield, the addition of Glen Kamara brings experience and composure.

Crucially, QPR have largely added rather than replaced, leaving Julien Stephan with a deeper and better-balanced squad heading into 2026/27. The attack didn't need much work, which is why they have brought in quality elsewhere.

The wingers, attacking midfielders, and strikers are all up to standard for a top eight push, but they required more in a defensive sense, given that was their undoing in 2025/26.

Kamara should be excellent alongside Jonathan Varane or Nicolas Madsen at the base of midfield, providing the pair remain at the club in this transfer window. However, an update has emerged on one of the players.

QPR have knocked back the latest approach from St Etienne for Varane, with the French side expected to move on in their pursuit of their long-term target. That is according to journalist Darren Witcoop.

He adds that Rayan Kolli could leave the club this month, with the forward further down the pecking order than Richard Kone and Rumarn Burrell, while also competing with Alfie Lloyd and Justin Obikwu for Championship minutes.

After nine goal involvements in total across his first two seasons with the club, which came in 32 games, Kolli managed six goals in 26 matches last season.

That includes a brace against Portsmouth during the thrashing of John Mousinho's side and another against Watford that same week. However, he did not bag again to end last season.

Kolli has been backed to leave QPR for £5 million previously but the 21-year-old's place in the pecking order is not currently such that QPR can command that kind of fee.

With Kolli entering the final years of his QPR contract, the club may now have to consider a permanent sale rather than a loan, particularly if there is genuine interest in the forward.

However, a temporary move could arguably be exactly what he needs to finally kick on. Kolli has shown plenty of promise but has not played more than 25 games for QPR in any of the last three seasons, limiting his opportunity to build rhythm and confidence.

Regular football elsewhere could unlock the consistency that has so far been missing, potentially increasing his value rather than diminishing it. At his age, game time may be more important than simply remaining at QPR as a squad option.

That said, extending his deal and loaning him could be the best plan of action. If Kolli is willing to do that, then QPR would benefit more from that than any sort of sale when he could be the future of the club in the Championship or beyond.
