Regardless of whether Manuel Neuer ends his career in 2026 or 2027 – one thing is certain: plans for the time after the 2014 world champion have long been underway at Säbener Straße.

New names keep popping up in connection with the goalkeeper position, with a report from Italy currently causing a stir: Bayern are said to have their eye on Parma keeper Zion Suzuki.

The 23-year-old US-Japanese is one of the most interesting goalkeeper prospects in Serie A. According to Calciomercato, Suzuki is being considered as an „external option“ by FC Bayern. His profile is undoubtedly attractive: modern, explosive, strong. His market value is currently around 20 million euros, and Inter Milan and Arsenal are also said to be keeping an eye on him. However, Suzuki is currently out with a hand fracture.

Bayern has no need in goal

In Jonas Urbig, the German record champions already have probably the most suitable successor to Neuer in their own squad. The 22-year-old has impressed with his calmness, maturity and impressive learning curve – and enjoys the complete trust of his captain. „It’s no problem for him that he can and will succeed me,“ Neuer said openly recently. Sven Ulreich is also seen internally as an important mentor who is stabilizing Urbig’s development.

Bayern also have two other options: Alexander Nübel, who is on loan to Stuttgart until the summer, and Daniel Peretz, who is currently on loan at HSV. Three goalkeepers who are set for the long term – a clear signal against impulsive transfers.

Rumors about Mike Maignan or Suzuki therefore seem more like market movements than concrete Bayern plans. The goalkeeper position is not currently one of FCB’s acute construction sites.

One thing remains to be said: Bayern are watching the international market as closely as ever – but their focus is primarily on their own young talent. Urbig has long since opened the door to Neuer’s successor.
