Paris Saint-Germain moved closer to the Champions League last 16 with a 3-2 comeback win at AS Monaco. Folarin Balogun struck twice inside the opening 20 minutes, before Désiré Doué’s brace and an Achraf Hakimi finish turned it round.
After a poor outing at Stade Rennais and indirect criticism from team-mates, Doué was left on the bench by Luis Enrique, yet the Golden Boy 2025 kept his composure. Get French Football News highlights three takeaways from the night, led by his response, defensive concerns and Aleksandr Golovin’s latest dismissal.
Ousmane Dembélé limped off after half an hour, opening the door for Doué, who scored within two minutes, his first since early January.
10 minutes later he drove a fierce shot that Philipp Köhn parried into Hakimi’s path, the full-back reacting quickest to level. Doué later added his second to send PSG into the second leg with a narrow lead.
Defensive frailties persist. Of Monaco’s four shots on target, two beat Matvey Safonov, and in Rennes last Friday three efforts had the same outcome. Across their last five matches, seven of opponents’ 19 shots on target have gone in, roughly one conceded for every two point seven on target.
Golovin saw red again, four days after his dismissal against FC Nantes. Monaco must now travel to the Parc des Princes without a technical leader who has four assists in his last five games, a setback Sébastien Pocognoli could have done without.
