A claim has been made on how much Troy Parrott might cost Coventry City to buy from AZ Alkmaar as Ipswich Town lurk...

Coventry City have been linked with a move for Troy Parrott, with the Irish striker plying his trade in the Netherlands with AZ Alkmaar after leaving Tottenham Hotspur permanently in 2024.

The 24-year-old has had an outstanding few years in the Netherlands, scoring 67 and assisting a further 21 in 125 games for AZ and Exelcior Rotterdam after struggling on loan in the lower leagues of English football.

It's evident that the Irishman has developed and become a star for his national team, too. Parrott has 11 goals and three assists in 35 games for the national team, but six of those came in an amazing period recently against Portugal, Hungary, and Czechia.

He almost sent the side through single-handedly to the World Cup. But now Parrott is being linked with a return to English football, which is where Coventry City come in. They are unlikely to be the only side with interest, though.

The Coventry City verdict on Troy Parrott

Former Spurs striker Parrott is being linked with a move to Coventry, as well as Ipswich. He’s turned into a prolific scorer for AZ Alkmaar, with 30 goals in 46 games this season as well as notching 11 assists.

We asked FLW's Coventry fan pundit Chris Deez if he would take Parrott at the CBS, even though he’s likely to cost a pretty penny? He’s only 24 and might still have improvement left, but his loan stints in England have left a lot to be desired before he made the move to the Netherlands.

He said: "I really like Troy Parrott. I rate him really highly and I think he's exactly the kind of signing we should be pushing for in our first season back in the Premier League.

"Obviously, it hasn't always worked out very well for him in every season when he's been out on loan in England and back when he was at Spurs. He mainly went out to Championship teams and didn't exactly set the league on fire.

"He did his best work at MK Dons and he looked good, but not good enough to convince Spurs to promote him into their first-team. Since he has gone out abroad, though, it's been a completely different story.

"He looks like a completely different player. The Dutch league isn't exactly one of the top leagues in Europe. He's not playing against some of the top teams in the world every week, but I think he's proven himself enough that he's worth a punt now.

"A lot of it is going to come down to price. I can't imagine AZ Alkmaar are going to let him go for less than £15-20 million. But if we are going to end up selling Haji Wright or Ellis Simms, or maybe even both, then putting that money towards Parrott would be a fantastic move."

Why Troy Parrott is the type of player Doug King loves at Coventry

On competition for Parrott, Chris added: "As I say, he's had a really good couple of seasons. But probably not enough to be earning a move to, well, certainly not a Big Six team.

"I think if any bigger clubs than us come in for him, you're probably going to be looking at your likes of Brentford, Everton, Bournemouth, I wouldn't hold it against him if he chose to go to one of those clubs.

"I think it could be a really good move for him as well, coming to Cov. Providing the goals that, hopefully, help us to stay in the Premier League. It would be a great advertisement for him and would put him on the radar of bigger clubs.

"So, it could be a win-win for everybody. I think he also fits the mould of players that Doug King likes. He's at that age where we can hopefully improve him and then sell on for more money.

"Doug King is a very smart businessman, he's all about making money. If we can bring in a player like Parrott for £20 million, and end up increasing his value to £30 million after a good season with us and keeping us in the league, then it's literally going to be good for all parties."
