Artem Dovbyk has explained his decision to swap Roma for Bologna, pointing to the ambition of the club and the personal pull of new coach Domenico Tedesco as decisive factors.
With quotes via FirenzeViola, the Ukrainian striker, who moved to the Dall’Ara as part of the deal that took Santiago Castro to Roma, spoke to Bologna’s official channels to set out his reasons.
He revealed that Tedesco’s approach had been refreshingly direct. “I chose Bologna thanks to the sporting directors and also to the coach, Domenico Tedesco,” Dovbyk said.
“He asked me just one question: ‘Do you want to play for Bologna?’ I said yes, and then we had a chat where he explained the project and the ambition of a club that wants to achieve excellent results this season.”

For a forward coming off a difficult spell in the capital, the appeal is clear. Bologna have built a reputation for improving attackers in recent years, and Dovbyk, the former Girona and La Liga top scorer, is hoping to follow suit and rediscover his best form.
“I know that several strikers who’ve played here have improved a lot,” he said. “I’ll just try to help the team by scoring as many goals as possible. I’m ambitious and eager to play, and I want to get back to my top condition.”
He was also struck by what he found on arrival. “My first impressions are of a very united group, almost like a family,” Dovbyk added. “Everyone fights for one another, and there are players with excellent individual qualities. I’ve often played against Bologna, and they were always difficult games.”
