Dowman leads nine Arsenal youngsters into international action

Arsenal’s senior stars will not be the only Gunners representing their countries during the extended international break, with a sizeable group from the academy also heading away.

Arsenal initially had 10 youngsters selected for match action across the international window, with Max Dowman among the headline names.

According to Arsenal’s official international update, Dowman will join Ife Ibrahim with England U19s, while young Gunners will also represent England U17s, Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland and Poland.

There has already been one change, however. As we reported earlier, Marli Salmon has withdrawn from England U18 duty because of injury. The defender had been expected to feature during the break but will instead remain out of international action.

Dowman and Ibrahim among five young England Gunners

Dowman and Ibrahim have both been selected by England U19s, beginning with a game against the Republic of Ireland at St. George’s Park before travelling to Marbella for matches against Norway, the USA and Belgium.

Ibrahim recently made his second senior Arsenal appearance in the Carabao Cup against Ipswich.

England U17s also include goalkeeper Charlie Phillips alongside Mylo Bernard and Vincent Joseph. They face the Republic of Ireland before travelling to Germany for games against Israel, Venezuela and the hosts.

Elsewhere, Callan Hamill has received his first Scotland U19 call-up after previously captaining his country at U17 level.

Axel Donczew, who has already scored for Arsenal U18s following his summer arrival, is in the Wales U19 squad despite being only 16. Daniel McCarron has been selected by Northern Ireland U17s, while Patrick Stachow will represent Poland U18s.

Isiah Matthews will also join Uganda U17s for a training camp ahead of qualifiers for the 2027 U17 Africa Cup of Nations.

England U17s – Charlie Phillips, Mylo Bernard and Vincent Joseph: Republic of Ireland, September 23 (6.30pm); Israel, September 28 (3pm); Venezuela, October 1 (10.30am); Germany, October 4 (11am).

Scotland U19s – Callan Hamill: Finland, September 24 (10am); Czechia, September 27 (2pm); Ukraine, September 30 (10am).

Wales U19s – Axel Donczew: USA, September 29 (11am); Norway, October 2 (11am); Northern Ireland, October 5 (10am).

Northern Ireland U17s – Daniel McCarron: Sweden, September 23 (4pm); Switzerland, September 25 (4pm); Wales, September 28 (11.30am).

Poland U18s – Patrick Stachow: Sweden, October 3 (2pm); Uruguay, October 6 (10am).

For Arsenal supporters, Dowman will inevitably attract plenty of attention, but this international break also gives several other Hale End prospects another opportunity to continue their development on a different stage.

The priority, as always, will be seeing them return to north London fit and ready to continue their progress with Arsenal.
