World Cup qualifying continues this evening as the Democratic Republic of Congo and Jamaica face off for a spot at this summer’s finals. The Congo’s campaign to reach this stage has been tense. They entered this second-chance competition after missing out on automatic qualification at the first time of asking, and broke Nigerian hearts after a penalty shootout in November to keep their campaign alive. With an underwhelming AFCON now in the rear-view mirror, they face an all-or nothing fixture to confirm their place in the United States this summer.

Standing in their way, though, is Jamaica, still reeling from the shock resignation of manager Steve McLaren. He hung up his coach’s whistle in November after overseeing a humiliating 2-0 defeat by Curacao, also missing out on automatic World Cup qualification. But the Reggae Boyz have been in fine form since replacing him with Rudolph Speid. They are unbeaten in five, most recently beating New Caledonia 1-0.
