If not for Lionel Messi's existence among the player ranks in MLS, there's a different diminutive forward that would be all but guaranteed to bank MVP honors in 2025.

On a night when the Argentine smashed a hat trick and added an assist as Inter Miami routed Nashville to the tune of a 5-2 win away from home, San Diego talisman Anders Dreyer reminded fans and pundits alike why those honors belong among his personal collection.

A star in his own right and one of the best players across the entire campaign, the Danish international bagged a brace tonight against the Portland Timbers to lift SDFC within touching distance of finishing top of the West, depending on the final half-hour of action on Decision Day.

The former Anderlecht, Midtjylland, and Esbjerg standout unleashed a fantastic strike to bag his first goal on the night, making it two-nil after first turning helper for Amahl Pellegrino's opener before the break.

Dreyer would then double his goal tally on the night, taking him to 19 goals and 19 assists in total, with a cheeky chip to put Mikey Varas' troops out of sight.

With his chances of lifting MVP honors dashed on account of Messi's otherworldly performance earlier this evening, Dreyer can still have the last laugh if he leads San Diego to MLS Cup glory.
