Dumbarton and Rangers have confirmed the cup match today between the sides WILL go ahead after the pitch passed a safety inspection.

The pitch inspection was announced yesterday amid bad weather around the Dumbarton Football Stadium, but the match has been given the all-clear to go ahead by both hosts Dumbarton and the travelling Ibrox men.

There was some speculation that the Sons had actually asked Rangers to help a bit with the groundwork on this one, borrowing a ground staff or two to help clear the pitch and prepare it for high-level football.

Either way, whatever was done, worked, and the match goes ahead amid massive doubts it may fall foul of the conditions and weather.

Philippe Clement has confirmed he’s not thrilled with the pitch the side will turn out on, with its condition being considerably below top level, but this is a grass roots League Two side who have even less money than Rangers do!

So the idea of having a marquee top level pitch at what amounts to a dinky stadium barely fit for playing youth football in is a little unlikely.

But at least the match goes ahead for sure.

Clement has also admitted he doesn’t expect the football to be great, given the surface, and Ibrox Noise had already suggested this in a piece yesterday to be called by a few angry Rangers fans that we’re ‘tims’ for being negative.

Apparently sharing the same view as the Rangers manager makes you ‘one of them’ these days!

Either way, the match is on and hopefully a banana skin is avoided.

Beware a free hit from a potential giant killer. Rangers have everything to lose here, Dumbarton are expected to.
