Italian football was flying high on Tuesday night, as Inter beat Barcelona 4-3 in the second leg of the Champions League semi-final at San Siro to leave the tie with a ridiculous 7-6 aggregate score.

It’s safe to say that on Wednesday morning, emotions were still soaring as VoetbalPrimeur analysed the Italian media.

La Gazzetta dello Sport spoke of an ‘epic evening’ and ‘blue-black ecstasy’ in San Siro, while Tuttosport went with the headline: ‘It’s the year of Inter.’

Corriere dello Sport continued the joyous outlook. ‘Crazy, epic, historic, moving: pick the adjective you want to use for this match. This is a Champions League evening for the history books.’

‘Dumfries proved once again to be clear and altruistic when it was needed. He was decisive as he was in Barcelona with two goals and an assist’, wrote Eurosport, which gave the Dutch international an 8/10 in their match ratings column.

Corriere della Sera gives the same score. ‘The man who won the first leg is also the man who won the second leg. Dumfries was the tactical key.’

Dumfries also got an 8 from Tuttomercatoweb. ‘Hansi Flick feared him after his two goals in Barcelona. Inter always looks for Dumfries – and it worked. He served Lautaro Martínez and served Acerbi, which forced Inter to go into extra time and flew to the Champions League final on a pink cloud.’
