Brendan Rodgers has great scoring options

Brendan Rodgers as always has a great choice when it comes to selecting who plays as centre forward this afternoon. I’d be surprised if it wasn’t Kyogo who started the game, but he also has a great player in Adam Idah to select should he feel the need to freshen things up. Both will feature during the game at Tannadice.

With three games to negotiate before the end of the month, and the Glasgow Derby at Ibrox beckoning early in the new year, we will most likely see a rotation of players, most notably the strikers.

Kyogo and Idah have been pretty shy in front of goal

Both Kyogo and Idah have been pretty shy in front of goal this campaign it has to be said. They of course bring other great attributes, but their main objective is to score goals, and so far they’ve not really been on top form where that is concerned.

Kyogo has only scored eight goals in 22 appearances this campaign, with only six of those goals coming in the league. While that may be a good ratio for some, for a striker at a side such as Celtic who create so many chances, it’s relatively underwhelming.

As for Adam Idah he has seven goals in 22 appearances with only five of those coming in Scottish Premiership matches. Adam has struggled slightly since his £9 million move from Norwich in the summer, and has failed to recapture the excellent form he showed during his successful loan spell last season.

Nicolas Kuhn our top scorer with 12 goals

The rest of our goals have been spread about the side this season with Nicolas Kuhn our top scorer with 12 goals in 23 appearances. Next up is Daizen Maeda with 11 goals in 23 appearances, while our skipper Callum McGregor has 6 goals in 23 appearances. That incidentally is the way Brendan likes it.

Remember when he turned up at Celtic Park for the first time as manager and Leigh Griffiths was there to meet his new boss, alongside 12,000 Celtic Supporters on a gloriously sunny May afternoon in 2016.  Leigh had scored 40 goals during the previous campaign yet Brendan immediately pointed out that has its dangers (an injury and the goals dry up) and that he wants his team to have goals coming from all over the park.

Yet while it’s great to have goals coming from different areas of the team it’s always vital to have your strikers firing on all cylinders.

Today is a great opportunity

Today is a great opportunity for both players to start showing their ruthlessness in front of goal, especially with a congested fixture list to negotiate over the next ten days or so. Having both strikers on top form heading into the New Year would be a great confidence booster, one that they certainly need.

So today I’m going for a 2-0 win for Celtic with Kyogo and Adam Idah getting the goals.
