Dusan Vlahovic had a night to forget as Juventus suffered a 1-0 defeat at home to Inter Milan on Sunday evening.
The 22-year-old, who joined Juve from Fiorentina in a deal worth £66.6 million in January, was nullified by the impressive Milan Skriniar over the course of the 90 minutes.
Hakan Calhanoglu scored the only goal of the game for the visitors from the penalty spot on the stroke of half-time. The result sees Inter move four points clear of fourth-placed Juve, whose title hopes may well have suffered a fatal blow.
AC Milan and Napoli remain tied at the top of the Serie A table on 66 points apiece. A seven-point gap now stands between themselves and Juve.
Vlahovic, who went into Sunday’s game having scored five goals in 11 appearances for his new employers, would have been hoping to produce a match-winning performance against Inter to further justify that hefty transfer fee.
But the Serbia international went viral on social media for all the wrong reasons.
He produced a contender for the most embarrassing dive of the season following a bizarre incident involving Inter defender Danilo D’Ambrosio.
D’Ambrosio raised his hands and caught Vlahovic in the face.
It looked an inadvertent coming together and D’Ambrosio quickly held his hand up towards the Juve 7, offering an apology.
But rather than accept the apology, Vlahovic paused before going to ground while holding his face.
Dear oh dear.
This, in the eyes of many football fans on social media, was a blatant attempt to get D’Ambrosio into trouble.
In the pre-VAR era, Vlahovic’s theatrics may have resulted in a harsh red card for D’Ambrosio.
But no action was taken against the Italian defender on this occasion – and rightly so, you have to say.
