Juventus’ Dusan Vlahovic is looking to get back into Igor Tudor’s favour, after a goal for Serbia against Andorra ended a drab run of form.
His Croatian boss, Tudor, has typically rotated the trio of Lois Openda, Jonathan David and Vlahovic. But now, the former Fiorentina man has thrown himself further ahead in contention for a start against Como on Sunday.
In recent weeks, as Gazzetta dello Sport’s Matteo Nava explains, there has been a tendency to protect David’s investment. Ideally, restoring his consistency and confidence, as in August, when the Canadian seemed to be improving at the expected rate while Lois Openda and Vlahovic have been relatively second-rate.
The Belgian’s search for the best position doesn’t seem to be over yet, while the Serbian striker, on the other hand, is burdened by his contract expiring on June 30, 2026. However, as was seen between August and September, Dusan is once again knocking for a starting spot.
On Tuesday evening, Vlahovic ended his drought and that of the other Juventus forwards with a goal for Serbia. None of the three had scored for club and country since the number nine’s brace in Juventus’ clash with Borussia Dortmund on September 16th. In short, there’s been almost an entire month without a single celebration in a striking department that, on paper, has the potential to score a hatful every weekend.
Excluding Vlahovic, Openda has yet to score this season, and David has only scored on his debut for Juventus with one goal for the national team in early September. Now, Vlahovic is forcefully pushing for more playing time and a starting spot that has only been granted to him twice so far for Juventus, against Inter and Verona.
He can now start against Como and get rewarded for his return to form this season.
