As Cifuentes looks forward to his first full season in charge at Loftus Road, Football League World takes a look at two transfer sagas the Spaniard is likely to have to deal with until deadline day.

Lyndon Dykes

Last season, Scotland international Lyndon Dykes scored on just six occasions in 41 Championship appearances and 31 starts but his efforts in front of goal were still vital to the R's survival efforts.

Dykes scored the only goal of the game as his side defeated Preston North End on 20th April, before finding himself on the scoresheet once more during an emphatic 4-0 victory over Leeds United, a result on the penultimate game of the season which kept Cifuentes' men in the second tier.

However, the 28-year-old's time in West London could come to an end soon as journalist Alan Nixon recently revealed via Patreon that fellow Championship side Blackburn Rovers are interested in securing his services.

Sourcing a new goalscorer could soon become a necessity for the Lancashire outfit, as Nixon has also reported that Premier League new boys Ipswich Town have made a bid for last season's Championship golden boot winner Sammie Szmodics, who plies his trade for Rovers.

But any pursuit of Dykes may go right down to the wire this transfer window, as the R's will likely wait until they have signed a new striker before deciding on whether or not to let the Scot go, following the sale of Sinclair Armstrong to Bristol City.

Furthermore, sides interested in the forward could well bide their time too, given the fact that his recent injury struggles meant that he could not play for Scotland at Euro 2024.

Isaac Hayden

Newcastle United midfielder Isaac Hayden impressed during a loan spell with the R's last season as he made 17 appearances during the latter half of the campaign.

Due to his 2023/24 efforts, Cifuentes and co. are interested in making a move to secure Hayden's signature on a permanent basis, but as revealed by the Northern Echo, the 29-year-old's wage demands are a stumbling block in the R's pursuit of the Arsenal academy product.

For as long as this remains the case, the Championship side are likely to assess other midfield options as they look to strengthen ahead of the new campaign.

This could mean that the Hayden transfer saga will continue to linger right up until deadline day, and in his own pursuit of regular football, the Magpies man himself may lower his demands come the end of August.

Should Cifuentes manage to land a move for Hayden, he would be a solid addition to the R's squad, who proved his quality in the Championship last campaign.

Hayden's FotMob statistics from the second half of the last Championship campaign prove that he was an asset for the R's both in and out of possession, as he maintained a pass accuracy of 86.9% while also achieving a dribble success rate of 85.7% and winning 54.4% of his duels.
