Robin Koch and Under-21 trio Nathaniel Brown, Nnamdi Collins and Ansgar Knauff started against Hungary and France respectively, with all four players only narrowly missing out on victory.
It was an unfamiliar feeling for Robin Koch, but a wonderful one. For the first time in over four years, the Eintracht Frankfurt defender played the entirety of an international fixture as Germany rounded off their UEFA Nations League group campaign with a 1-1 draw in Hungary. There was no separating Germany and France at Under-21 level either, as the two teams played out a hard-fought 2-2 draw. Nathaniel Brown and Nnamdi Collins started in the full-back positions – as has been the case at club level lately – while Ansgar Knauff was deployed on the right flank. Knauff and Collins were replaced in the 56th and 73rd minutes respectively, with Brown going the distance. Egypt, meanwhile, drew 1-1 with Botswana in their final qualifier for the Africa Cup of Nations. Omar Marmoush was named in the starting XI and played the full 90 minutes. Despite the lack of victories, the Eagles players ended the international year with plenty of positives to take into the final block of club fixtures before the winter break.
