Jonny Burkardt (66’) and Arnaud Kalimuendo (69’) were on target for Eintracht in a 2-2 draw at home to 1. FC Köln on Sunday.
Three changes Head coach Albert Riera brought in three new faces for the home game against Köln, with Robin Koch returning to the line-up following suspension, and Ansgar Knauff and Oscar Højlund joining him in the starting XI. Farès Chaibi began on the bench, while Nnamdi Collins and Jean-Mattéo Bahoya missed out through injury.Early chance for Köln Michael Zetterer was called into action after just 60 seconds to first deny Jakub Kaminski and then Ragnar Ache from close range on the follow-up, preventing an early deficit.
Eintracht seized control of the game after that, but had difficulty finding spaces and creating chances against a deep-lying away side. Arnaud Kalimuendo was a lively presence down the Frankfurt left wing, constantly forcing his markers onto the back foot.
Larsson tees up Knauff Knauff had the clearest opening for Eintracht in the 24th minute following a fine pass from Hugo Larsson, but he narrowly missed the target from six metres out. Said El Mala was likewise just inches away from finding the net at the opposite end of the pitch a couple of minutes later.Chances at both ends
A wonderful first-time pass from Oscar Højlund from inside his own half sent Kalimuendo scurrying into the box in the 34th minute, but Marvin Schwäbe’s reflex save kept the ball out. Kaminski should arguably have given Köln the lead when he was left one-on-one with Zetterer following a counter-attack, but the Eintracht goalkeeper made a brilliant save to keep the score 0-0 at the interval.
Burkardt breaks the deadlockThe breakthrough arrived in the 68th minute when substitute Farès Chaibi dribbled into the Köln penalty area and pulled the ball across the face of goal for Jonathan Burkardt to prod over the line from close range.
Kalimuendo doubles the lead The Eagles were keen to press their advantage and went 2-0 up just three minutes later. Burkardt sent Ayoube Amaimouni-Echghouyab in to the penalty area and the ball eventually fell kindly for Kalimuendo to smash into the top right-hand corner.
Köln reply The visitors did not need long to muster a response and pulled a goal back in the 70th minute when Larsson inadvertently deflected a Kaminski shot past Zetterer and into the net.
Castro-Montes levelsKöln then took advantage of some lax Eintracht defending in the 82nd minute when Marius Bülter was given space to find the unmarked Alessio Castro-Montes to tap in the equaliser at 2-2.
Younes Ebnoutalib, making his comeback from a lengthy injury lay-off, could have won it shortly before the final whistle but headed over the bar, leaving the final score 2-2 at Deutsche Bank Park.
