Arsenal forward Eberechi Eze has been ruled out of England’s friendlies against Uruguay and Japan with a calf injury after Mikel Arteta confirmed his absence on Sunday.

L'Équipe reports that Eze had been included on Friday in Thomas Tuchel’s 35-player selection for Wembley dates against Uruguay on 27 March and Japan four days later, part of preparations for the 2026 World Cup.

Arteta told reporters Eze would not be available and that another scan is planned in six or seven days to assess the issue, which he described as affecting the calf.

Newcastle United winger Harvey Barnes could replace Eze in the squad.

Further assessment is expected once the next scan is completed.
