At FC Bayern, the focus is not only on players, but increasingly also on the structures in the background. A central topic is the future of chief scout Nils Schmadtke
According to information from the BILD podcast„Bayern Insider“, sporting director Max Eberl is clearly in favour of a contract extension – a step with a signal effect. Schmadtke is considered one of Eberl’s closest colleagues in the sporting area. According to BILD reporter Tobias Altschäffl, the two work „very closely together“, especially in the observation and evaluation of potential new arrivals
Schmadtke is currently not only operationally involved, but also strategically important. It was he who deposited with FC Köln that FC Bayern would like to be informed should there be any offers for El Mala. This active role underlines his importance within the new Bayern structure

Schmadtke’s current contract expires in the summer of 2026, and Eberl believes that an early extension makes sense in order to create planning security and continue on the current path
It is likely that Eberl will push through this wish internally. „At the moment, Max really has a very, very good standing,“ emphasizes BILD head of soccer Christian Flak. Uli Hoeneß also speaks positively about the sporting director internally, which further strengthens Eberl’s position
Another aspect is the personal closeness between Eberl and the Schmadtke family. Altschäffl confirms: „Max Eberl has a very good relationship with Jörg Schmadtke.“ This connection is not seen as a problem internally, but as a basis of trust
Especially in a phase of upheaval, FC Bayern is consciously focusing on reliability and clear responsibilities. An extension of Schmadtke’s contract would therefore be more than just a personnel decision. It would be a clear commitment to Eberl’s course and to the long-term development of the scouting structure.
