Head coach Tonda Eckert says there is no change on Taylor Harwood-Bellis and has offered updates on Caspar Jander and Keven Schlotterbeck before facing Millwall.
Harwood-Bellis is not expected to be involved, having already missed two squads. Champions League side Aston Villa had an £18m bid turned down this month, with the Midlands club still monitoring the England hopeful as they look for a new centre-back. According to Daily Echo, Eckert said there is interest and dialogue but nothing new since Tuesday, adding he speaks to the defender daily and he remains a Southampton player.
Midfielder Jander has been out since the first half of pre-season after a quad injury at Eastleigh. The 23-year-old, admired in Germany but with no bids, has had minor setbacks, with his muscle initially reacting poorly to first sessions. Eckert hopes he will be back very soon, and said it should be before the international break.
Schlotterbeck’s £3m arrival from Bundesliga side Augsburg was completed on Thursday, and Eckert confirmed the centre-back will be in the squad. He highlighted more than 150 Bundesliga appearances, recent captaincy in a cup tie and the value of a left-footed centre-back. He also described him as strong in the air and said he could help immediately.
Former captain James Ward-Prowse could also feature if his signing is completed in time.
