Eddie Howe believes he will remain in charge of Newcastle United next season following talks with the club’s ownership, although he has acknowledged that results in the final weeks of the campaign will be decisive.

The Newcastle head coach held discussions with senior figures from the club’s hierarchy during a series of meetings attended by representatives of the Public Investment Fund, which owns a majority stake in the club.

Chairman Yasir Al-Rumayyan was present alongside minority owner Jamie Reuben, as part of a delegation that travelled to the North-East for the annual review sessions.

Howe was required to present an assessment of Newcastle’s season, which has seen a significant drop in performance levels compared to the previous campaign.

The club are currently sitting in the lower half of the Premier League table after a run of nine defeats in their last 12 matches, leaving them closer to the relegation zone than the European places they occupied last season.

Despite that downturn, Howe described the meetings as constructive and insisted there remains a sense of unity between himself and the ownership group.

He indicated that the long-term vision for the club remains intact, regardless of short-term struggles on the pitch.

However, the tone of the discussions reflected the reality of Newcastle’s position.

Howe admitted that he faced more challenging questions than in previous years, with the board seeking detailed explanations for the team’s regression.

The head coach accepted that scrutiny is part of the role, particularly when results have fallen below expectations.

He also made it clear that conversations alone will not determine his future.

Howe acknowledged that performances in the remaining four league games will be critical in shaping the club’s final decision.

Newcastle begin that run with a home fixture against Brighton, where they will look to halt their poor form and restore confidence within the squad.

The manager stressed that maintaining belief is essential, but he also recognised that results are the only way to sustain trust from both supporters and ownership.

He reiterated that he remains fully committed to the role and continues to work with a long-term perspective.

At the same time, he accepted that the club must see clear signs of progress on the pitch.

Newcastle’s situation has not fundamentally changed following the meetings.

While Howe retains backing for now, the expectation is that the team must respond positively in the closing stages of the season.
