Newcastle United facing Brighton, 3pm at the Amex Stadium.

Eddie Howe and Newcastle United now looking to make it three wins in a row, having defeated both Union S-G and Forest ahead of the international break.

Eddie Howe giving these key updates.

Eddie Howe Brighton press conference:

“This group of games will potentially be a defining period of the season for us; this will set us up one way or another and we need to be as aggressive as we can to take as many points as possible.”

Eddie Howe on Brighton:

“It is a team that we always have tough games against; they are well managed and coached and have some very good players in their squad.

“I thought we played well at their place last year, one of our better away performances, and that point ended up being so valuable for us.”

Eddie Howe on United’s away form:

“We continue to look at it on a game-by-game basis.

“There is a lot of good in our away performances, I back the players, I back the team, we will come good in that respect, in front of goal.

“There’s a lot of good in our defensive structure and that’s a positive thing, going away and being defensively solid.”

Eddie Howe on the appointment of Ross Wilson as the new Newcastle United Sporting Director:

“I have known Ross for several years; he has been around the game for a long time and done well.

“Working with him now, be interesting to see how our relationship develops.

“He seems a positive person, a good person.

“I back Ross’ appointment, and I hope we can work together well and have success.

“I think Ross will be a great addition.”

Eddie Howe on team news ahead of Brighton:

“I think everyone has come back okay [from the internationals], little concern over Joelinton but think he has come back okay. We’ll see how he trains today.

“Jacob Ramsey has had a couple of sessions. Didn’t want to push him too much, he trained in the break and looked good, pleased where he is now.

“Lewis Hall’s second scan was good news. We think he will be back during this period of games before the next international break.”

Eddie Howe on Tino Livramento:

“Tino is out of the brace, no massive changes to the time frame that he was given, but he is feeling positive.”

Eddie Howe on Yoane Wissa:

“Yoane’s had his first time on the grass with us which was great to see.

“We need to step him up gradually.

“I know he is desperate to get out and show his worth but it’s one step at a time now.”

Eddie Howe asked about Malick Thiaw and Sven Botman, the two Newcastle defenders currently not getting included in the Dutch and German national squads:

“They have all the attributes…the height, the strength, the power, the technical ability, they can do everything.

“They are really good users of the ball and that is hugely important in the game we want to play.

“In terms of their international careers, they are such high quality players I am always surprised when they are not involved with their national teams.

“I’m sure that long-term this is a big aim for both players and if they continue to play as they are, they will get those call-ups”
