Eddie Howe has confirmed Newcastle United will be without defenders Dan Burn and Matt Target for several months.
Burn suffered a back injury in his side’s Premier League win over Arsenal while Targett picked up a hamstring issue in their League Cup victory at Manchester United.
Ahead of Tuesday’s Champions League group encounter with Borussia Dortmund, Magpies’ manager Howe revealed that the pair are facing lengthy lay-offs.
“Dan Burn will be out for some time I think,” said Howe.
“[It looks like] a long-term problem, a couple of months is a speculative number. He landed on his spine. It’s a huge blow.
“[Targett] is seeing a specialist tonight but it won’t be a short-term fix.
“He will probably be out around three months. That’s a rough estimate.”
Newcastle travel to Signal Iduna Park aiming to extend their unbeaten run to four games in all competitions.
