Coventry City have been tipped to sign Kieran Trippier this summer
Coventry City are on the cusp of earning promotion to the Premier League under Frank Lampard.
The Sky Blues have not competed in the top flight in 25 years, but a victory this weekend could be enough to seal their place in the division, depending on results elsewhere.
Middlesbrough and Millwall will go into this weekend 12 points adrift in third and fourth with just five games to go, so if both teams fail to win then a victory at the CBS Arena will seal promotion.
Planning will already be underway for the upcoming summer transfer window, with the club targeting survival in the top flight next year.
A number of players have already been linked with a move to Lampard’s side ahead of their promotion success.
Coventry have even been tipped to sign Kieran Trippier from Newcastle United following confirmation that he will depart St. James’ Park at the end of the campaign.

Howe has praised how Trippier has handled himself this season with it now being confirmed that he will depart the Magpies when his contract expires this summer.
The Newcastle boss has credited the full-back with being one of the best players at the club during his time in charge, and that he deserves all the praise he’s received since announcing his exit, but he offered no hints as to what the future holds for the 35-year-old.
"Kieran has handled himself superbly during this period,” said Howe, via the club’s official X account.
“He came to see me and we had a discussion.
“He had a clear vision of what he saw his future looking like.
“We respected that and wanted him to get the best reception and reaction for his time here.
“For me, he goes down as one of the best players to have played for me during my time.
“He has been a model of consistency; he has that will to win.
“He has been a really good leader, and he deserves to go with all the plaudits."
Trippier joined Newcastle from Atletico Madrid in a deal worth a reported £12 million in the 2022 January transfer window.
The defender was a key figure in Howe’s side as they earned qualification for the Champions League twice, as well as won the EFL Cup in 2025.
However, his influence on the team has waned this year, and he has made just 18 appearances in the Premier League so far in 2025/26.
Trippier’s contract is set to expire at the end of the campaign, which will signal his exit, meaning he has just seven remaining games to make an impact for the team.
Newcastle are 12th in the Premier League table, but could still qualify for European football for the next campaign.
Meanwhile, Coventry will be in Championship action this weekend against 24th place Sheffield Wednesday as they look to clinch promotion.
The two sides will meet at the CBS Arena on Saturday in a 12.30pm kick-off.

Trippier will need to be willing to take a significant pay cut for it to be worth Coventry’s time to bring him in next season.
Premier League experience will be a useful asset to add to the dressing room, but his performances showed this year that he’s not necessarily capable of competing at that level on a regular basis anymore.
The Sky Blues have Milan van Ewijk and Kaine Kesler-Hayden as options at right-back, although Kesler-Hayden hasn’t had much of a look-in this season.
If Trippier is willing to come in as a secondary option at a reasonable cost in wages, then this could be a sensible move, with Howe giving a ringing endorsement.
