Eddie Howe reflects on Newcastle 2 Athletic Bilbao 0 and yet another Champions League win

Eddie Howe watched on as this latest Champions League night ended Newcastle 2 Athletic Bilbao 0.
A decent performance and a very good result.
As Newcastle United banked another three points towards reaching the last 16 knockout stage.
United with nine points from a possible twelve so far, at the halfway stage.
Eddie Howe a happy man as Newcastle currently sit sixth of 36 in the Champions League table.
The Newcastle United Head Coach reflecting on Newcastle 2 Athletic Bilbao 0:
“Really pleased.
“It was an important response to West Ham.
“We had a quick turnaround for this game.
“I don’t think it was us at our best but we are in a good position now in this competition.
“We learn a lot.
“This format is really good, more games, but it’s a bigger test when you return to the Premier League.
“It’s been good to have a game off the back of West Ham, we have put that away and we scored two goal
“We want to progress from the league phase.
“We have put ourselves in a strong position now…but there are still many challenges ahead.
“Now we go away in the Champions League.
“Marseille away will be incredibly difficult.”
Eddie Howe on Malick Thiaw’s performance:
“He was really good. He had to be.
“It was an impressive performance from us after the weekend [at West Ham], and Malick played a big part in that.”
Eddie Howe on Dan Burn’s goal:
“It was very reminiscent of the [League] cup final.
“It was from distance.
“It was a training ground move, so well done to all the coaches involved in that.”
