Newcastle United have confirmed that Eddie Howe has returned to first-team training, following the manager’s hospitalisation with pneumonia.
Howe has missed Newcastle’s last three fixtures after becoming unwell with the illness, which led to a spell in hospital.
“Newcastle United are delighted to confirm that Eddie Howe has returned to his duties at the club’s Training Centre,” a club statement read.
“Eddie had recently been hospitalised with pneumonia and has now returned to work after a period of recovery. We thank supporters for their warm wishes.”
Assistant manager Jason Tindall has overseen recent fixtures. Howe was absent for Newcastle’s impressive wins over Manchester United and Crystal Palace, before the Magpies suffered a setback with defeat at Aston Villa last weekend.
Newcastle return to Premier League action at home to Ipswich Town on Saturday afternoon, where Howe will be expected to take his place on the touchline.
Newcastle are fifth in the Premier League table and hold one of the Champions League qualification places. However, there are just four points between third-place Manchester City and Aston Villa in seventh, in a competitive battle to secure a place in the competition.
