Eden Hazard backs Mourinho to succeed at Real Madrid: ‘He will do well’ | OneFootball

Speaking at a recent media appearance, former Real Madrid winger Eden Hazard has backed Jose Mourinho to succeed at the Spanish capital club.

Mourinho returned to the Santiago Bernabeu this past summer, replacing Alvaro Arbeloa as the manager after a disappointing campaign for the team.

The Portuguese tactician has taken charge of the club for the second time in his career, having previously managed Los Blancos for three years between 2010 and 2013.

So far, Mourinho’s stint at the club has been off to a positive start, with Real Madrid winning six of their seven games in all competitions.

Hazard tips Mourinho for success

And, Hazard who worked with Mourinho previously at Chelsea, has backed the manager to do well and lead the team to succeed.

“I know Jose, so you know, for me it’s nice to see him, you know, in Real Madrid You know, this club is also special for me. So he’s going to do well,” he said, as quoted by AS.

“You know, he has the experience and everything. So the team is also beautiful, so yeah, let’s see,” the former Belgian international added.

Hazard and Mourinho forged a strong bond during their stint together at Chelsea between 2013 and 2015, with the manager helping turn the winger into one of the best players in the world.

Even though Hazard’s stint at Real Madrid did not pan out according to plans, the now-retired winger looks back fondly on his time at the club and has a special place in his heart for Los Blancos.

During the brief chat, Hazard also touched upon the situation of former Real Madrid teammate and the club’s current No. 7, Vinicius Jr.

The Brazilian international has endured a difficult start to the 2026/27 season following his contract renewal, leading to a lot of criticism.

Fans have also jeered and booed him at the Santiago Bernabeu, while the winger himself admitted after the recent game against Elche that he needed to improve.

Commenting on his situation, Hazard added: “We all want Vinicius to score goals, but at the end, we want Real Madrid to win. So it doesn’t matter if he scores or no….”
