Forward won two league titles in his time in England
John Terry heralded Eden Hazard as Chelsea’s “greatest ever player” as the Belgian was inducted into the Premier League Hall of Fame.
The forward, who played 352 games for the Blues, scoring 110 goals, moved to England back in 2012 from Lille.
He went on to win two Premier League titles, an FA Cup and a League Cup, and two Europa Leagues in his time at Stamford Bridge.
He departed west London in 2019, when he moved to Real Madrid for €100million.
Hazard, now 34, was presented with congratulatory messages from his former manager and captain at Chelsea, Jose Mourinho and Terry.
“Eden, a huge congratulations on a fantastic achievement,” Terry began in a montage posted to the Premier League’s social media accounts.
“It was a joy to play with you. You’re Chelsea’s greatest ever player, in terms of pure ability and having someone like you in your team, it was a dream come true. It’s players like you that excite supporters, people on your team, and petrify the opposition.
“I absolutely love you to bits. I know the Chelsea fans do. It was a joy to play with you and share many of the trophies [that we won]. I’ve got a few of these because of players like you. A big thank you, huge congratulations.”
Hazard played under Mourinho for three years, and in that time, the Portuguese dubbed the winger as the best young player in the world in 2014, after the Belgian’s star showing in a 1-0 win against Manchester City.
“Many congratulations,” Mourinho said.
“You were one of the most amazing players that I have ever worked with. I know, you know, everybody knows that you belong there. I am sorry about being a pain in your ass a few times.
“I just wanted you to be better and better and better. But even so, you are in the hall of fame. You will stay in our memories now. I’ve enjoyed [it] so much, and thank you for my last Premier League.”
