Manchester United’s priority in the transfer market is revamping their midfield, with added emphasis placed on finding the perfect replacement for Casemiro.

Alternative options include Sandro Tonali and Mateus Fernandes. The Newcastle ace’s valuation and wage demands are proving problematic.

As for the West Ham star, Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain’s interest have complicated proceedings, while the Hammers are refusing to lower their asking price despite their relegation.

Ederson role explained

The Portuguese ace is seen more as an eventual replacement for Bruno Fernandes, which means the Red Devils are yet to fill the gap left by the five-time Champions League winner.

Or have they? United have already agreed a deal with Atalanta for Ederson, but the initial assumption was that the Brazilian would come in as Manuel Ugarte’s replacement.

However, the 26-year-old could emerge as his compatriot’s direct replacement if Sports Center Brazil are to be believed.

The report claims that Casemiro, before leaving Old Trafford, specifically asked INEOS to try and sign the Atalanta ace to fill his boots.

How Casemiro helped United clinch the deal

“Casemiro recommended Ederson to Manchester United before leaving.”

The Peoples Person has already analysed Ederson’s ability to play at the base of midfield, a position he has occupied under three different managers during his time at Bergamo.

However, he is better suited as a box-to-box midfielder capable of crashing into the box late on.

Whether Michael Carrick has different plans for the new recruit remains to be seen.

For now, United fans will be desperate to catch a glimpse of their new signing after Ederson was called up to Brazil’s World Cup squad.
