With just days remaining in the ongoing summer transfer market, Ederson continues to find himself at the centre of contrasting rumours concerning his future.
The Manchester City goalkeeper’s situation has dominated headlines throughout August, with various outlets across Europe, South America, and the Middle East offering differing accounts of where the Brazilian could be playing his football during the now-ongoing season.
From Saudi Arabia’s long-standing interest to Turkish champions Galatasaray actively holding talks with Manchester City and those around the player, the uncertainty around Ederson’s Etihad Stadium future has left supporters awaiting clarity.
This summer alone, the 32-year-old has been linked with an exit to Napoli, which ultimately collapsed, a potential mega-money switch to the Saudi Pro League, and most recently, a surprise move to Istanbul where Galatasaray chiefs are pushing hard to convince City.
Reports earlier this month even suggested that Ederson had already agreed personal terms with the Turkish outfit and was due to travel imminently. However, despite constant noise, Guardiola has continued to insist on Ederson remaining as his No.1 choice between the posts.
Reports from ESPN Brazil had most recently claimed that Ederson had emerged as a target for Saudi Pro League side Al-Nassr, with manager Jorge Jesus personally targeting the Manchester City superstar.
However, according to transfer market insider Fabrizio Romano, there are no talks ongoing between Al Nassr and Manchester City, and not even on the player’s side nor Ederson’s representatives.
It is once again reminded, as has been the case throughout the summer, that Turkish champions Galatasaray remain keen on signing the Brazilian goalkeeper in the final days of the summer market.
The rejection of Al Nassr speculation further underlines the idea that, despite multiple suitors circling, Ederson’s options may not be as wide as initially perceived. With Flamengo also ruled out this week, the most concrete pathway for the goalkeeper appears to remain in Turkey.
Looking ahead, much may depend on how far Galatasaray are willing to push financially. Their improved bids have been met with little encouragement from the Etihad hierarchy, but reports suggest they are prepared to increase their offer again in order to seal the deal.
For City, the decision is now a balancing act between extracting maximum value for a goalkeeper who has been central to their success since 2017, and ensuring Pep Guardiola has sufficient cover heading into a gruelling campaign.
