Manchester United will wrap up their 2025/26 campaign away from home against Brighton & Hove Albion on Sunday afternoon.

Michael Carrick, who has now officially been appointed as the permanent head coach at United, has confirmed that Casemiro will not feature at Brighton, having bid farewell to the Old Trafford crowd after the 3-2 win over Nottingham Forest last weekend.

United are also not waiting for the season to end or the summer window to open before laying the groundwork for the signing of Casemiro‘s potential successor.

Ederson only wants Manchester United

Manchester United find themselves in pole position to secure the services of Atalanta’s midfield commander Ederson, despite interest from other clubs.

According to Fabrizio Romano, Ederson has “paused all other clubs” keen on signing him in order to give priority to United.

This is an interesting development, given that the six-foot-tall Brazilian reportedly agreed personal terms to join Atlético Madrid earlier this year.

The Italian journalist adds that United are in “advanced talks” with Atalanta. However, they are “waiting to give their final green light” to proceed and finalise what may be Michael Carrick’s first signing in charge of the Red Devils.

Atalanta boss hints at imminent exit

With all eyes seemingly on a dream move to the Theatre of Dreams, Ederson did not play in Atalanta’s final game of the season against Fiorentina.

“Ederson out? It was a decision we agreed with the boy because there’s something going on in the transfer market,” Atalanta manager Raffaele Palladino said after the full-time whistle while addressing his star player’s absence.

A tireless worker, the Samba midfielder has been an instrumental part of Palladino’s setup, shining as the tempo-setter by receiving the ball from the back and distributing it to his more dangerous teammates.

On Saturday, United insider SullyTalkz on Twitter suggested that Ederson would “most likely be coming in as a squad option, rather than a starter” at the club.

Jason Wilcox and company are also thought to be working on bringing in Mateus Fernandes from West Ham United.
