This week has seen Ederson’s future become one of the significant topics of interest surrounding Manchester City. The Brazilian international has been a key contributor to Manchester City’s recent era of dominance. In fact, there is an argument to be made that Ederson’s ability with his feet and as a sweeper keeper has been one of the most crucial ingredients of City’s play. But it does appear that the curtain could be coming down on the City career of Ederson. Rob Dawson has reported for ESPN that Galatasaray are pushing hard to sign Ederson.

But a new report indicates that Ederson’s potential move to Galatasaray may not proceed until Manchester City signs Gianluigi Donnarumma from PSG. That is a smart move by City to ensure that they don’t get caught short in the goalkeeping position.

Ederson’s potential move to Galatasaray likely hinges on Manchester City’s move for Gianluigi Donnarumma.

Jack Gaughan has covered the potential comings and goings at Manchester City in a new report for the Daily Mail. Gaughan reports that Savinho is intent on leaving City for Tottenham. Gaughan has also provided an update on the goalkeeping situation at Manchester City. As per Jack Gaughan’s report, there is a school of thought that Ederson’s potential sale to Galatasaray depends on Manchester City signing Gianluigi Donnarumma from PSG. That is now a story to monitor before the transfer window closes.

Manchester City will not want to be caught short in the goalkeeping position.

As of right now, Manchester City have James Trafford, Stefan Ortega and Ederson as options to play in goal. The issue is that the futures of Stefan Ortega and Ederson are uncertain. With the arrival of James Trafford, it would seem that Stefan Ortega will leave the club. Where Ortega ends up for the 25/26 season remains to be seen. But if Ederson leaves before City signs a replacement, that could create an issue.

James Trafford and Stefan Ortega are both good goalkeepers. As mentioned above, Stefan Ortega seems likely to leave Manchester City. James Trafford has the potential, talent and motivation to become Manchester City’s number-one goalkeeper in time. Is he ready for that responsibility right now? That remains to be seen. Signing Gianluigi Donnarumma before letting Ederson go would ensure that City are covered in goal. It’s a smart move by the Manchester City hierarchy if that is how they are playing it.

Ederson’s future remains uncertain at this time. But the possibility of him leaving City for Galatasaray is very real. But his move to Turkey may not eventuate if City cannot sign Gianluigi Donnarumma. How both moves come together is of great interest entering the closing stages of the summer transfer window.
