Edinson Cavani’s bleak half-season ends with Boca omission | OneFootball

Edinson Cavani has been left out of Boca’s final match of the semester, capping a forgettable spell blighted by a back problem and limited minutes.

According to LaNumer12.com.ar, coach Claudio Úbeda has omitted the 39-year-old from the squad for Thursday’s decisive Copa Libertadores group game against Universidad Católica on matchday six, with last-16 qualification at stake.

He has featured in only two of the 24 fixtures this half-season. Recent training with the group hinted at progress, yet neither he nor Carlos Palacios were included for these key games.

His only appearances came in the early stages of the Torneo Apertura 2026. He played 25 minutes as a substitute in the 0-0 draw with Platense on 15 February. He then started the 0-0 clásico against Racing on 20 February before going off on 79 minutes.

He has not featured since that meeting with Racing. With his deal expiring at the end of the year, his situation poses a major question for Boca’s planning in the second half of the campaign.
