Edoardo Bove has signed for Watford in the Championship on a contract running to June 2031. In a club statement confirming the five-and-a-half-year deal, the 23-year-old said he had been eager to return, adding that joining a historic club such as Watford gave him immense pride.
Bove has been out since December 2024, when he suffered a cardiac arrest during a Serie A match between Fiorentina and Inter Milan. His return to action is now only a matter of days.
Developed at AS Roma, Bove caught José Mourinho’s eye during the coach’s time with the Giallorossi. He joined Fiorentina on loan in summer 2024 for more minutes, before the cardiac arrest abruptly halted his season.
Since then he has had a defibrillator fitted and has not played, with Serie A prohibiting footballers from competing with a device considered a contraindication to professional play.
That is permitted in England, where he has signed after being released by AS Roma. Christian Eriksen, who also suffered a cardiac arrest, previously returned to the game in England.
