“It was a very particular summer for Bove,” explained Tavano. “We can’t explain why, but there wasn’t room for him in Rome and so we started looking around.”

“There were several solutions: the most prestigious one was Nottingham, but there also offers from Ligue 1. Having brought Richardson first during the summer, I understood that Fiorentina had something important to say.”

“In Florence there is a great history as well as a serious club with a high-level project, as demonstrated by Viola Park.”

Asked to describe the midfielder’s emotions about leaving his boyhood club, Tavano acknowledged there was some sadness regarding the situation.

“It’s clear that you all know Bove’s bond with Roma: he grew up there and leaving your favorite team leaves you with a lot of sadness,” he admitted.

“But then you enter an important context like Florence, where you know you can grow, so he’s really happy to be here. He knows he made the right choice. We’re talking about a smart guy, with a good head on his shoulders and who knows what he wants. He has already metabolised this departure from Roma.”

He continued, “Mourinho gave him a lot but also gave him a label that stuck with him. A champion like Gattuso is uncomfortable: he was the king of pressing. While Bove is much more than that, he also has the qualities of an attacking midfielder.”

“Maybe Roma’s request was to play more and they must have thought that he wasn’t ready. But that’s not the case. He is a physical and generous footballer: the goal scored yesterday for the national team confirms that his technique is part of his repertoire. He will soon become a complete player for Fiorentina and the national team.”
