Edson Castillo talks about his unique experience at Kaiser Chiefs!
After six months away, former Kaizer Chiefs midfielder Edson Castillo has returned to his homeland, sharing insights on his time in South Africa and how it shaped him as he embarks on a new journey with Carabobo FC.
The 31-year-old, now a free agent signing for the Venezuelan club, looks back on a two-season spell at Amakhosi that was curtailed by injuries in its final chapter. His unexpected departure left a void in the Soweto giants' midfield, shifting focus to Sibongiseni Mthethwa and Thabo Cele as the primary options in the center of the park.
Across 41 appearances in all competitions for Chiefs, the Venezuelan international managed to find the net five times and set up two more goals. While he maintained his place in the national team setup during his stay abroad, he was occasionally omitted from some squad gatherings.
"I'm thrilled to be back in Venezuela," Castillo remarked. "From overseas, I followed almost all the league (Betway Premiership) matches. It's a very balanced competition, which is positive for continuous player development."
He went on to describe the league's intensity, saying, "The South African league is highly competitive and physically demanding. It elevated my game because I'm a player who pushes himself to the limit, and performing at that level helped me operate at my absolute peak."
"I feel I'm at a stage in my career where I'm more mature and experienced. I have a lot to offer Carabobo," he stated. "I'm a dynamic player who contributes in both defense and attack. I'm a defensive midfielder with a goalscoring instinct."
Explaining his fit at his new club, he noted, "Carabobo is an ideal team for my style of play because they favor possession and creating ample attacking space. That will allow me to generate numerous scoring opportunities during matches."
Castillo concluded with his ambitions, declaring, "I arrive with every intention and desire to reclaim my spot in the national team. Carabobo is a club performing well and playing attractive football. I'm confident they will help me return to my best form."
