Nottingham Forest look set for further behind-the-scenes change as scrutiny intensifies around Edu’s position, amid claims he has effectively left and continued links with Flamengo.

Bola reports that Flamengo have not opened talks for defender Jair Cunha, despite his presence on scouting lists. The Brazilian club are being linked with Edu, but no discussions are planned with him over signings.

Director José Boto remains in post for now, with no official change to his role. Transfer targets continue to be discussed internally.

Talksport reports that Edu is no longer an active employee and the club preferred to keep the situation quiet while focusing on survival. Doubts grew this week amid suggestions he has been staying away from the training base.

The Telegraph says he has been told to avoid the training complex and to stay away from fixtures, and that his exit is anticipated before the end of the season. He missed a third straight match on Wednesday, the 2-2 draw with Manchester City.

Edu has held the post for eight months in a turbulent campaign featuring four managers. Nuno Espirito Santo was dismissed after a clash with Edu, then Ange Postecoglou and Sean Dyche had brief spells, with Dyche sacked last month after 114 days. Vitor Pereira now leads a side above the drop only on goal difference with nine games left.

Edu left Arsenal in November 2024 seeking a new challenge and joined Forest the following summer. His remit covered recruitment, squad planning and player development, as Forest spent about £200 million. Results and several signings have since faced intense scrutiny.
