Egiluz undergoes second operation on right knee | OneFootball

Athletic centre-back Unai Egiluz underwent surgery on Wednesday to replace the anterior cruciate ligament graft in his right knee. It is his second operation on the same joint since last August.

According to as.com, the procedure, carried out with IMQ support, was successful and he will be discharged on Thursday. He will begin a new recovery programme at Lezama across the summer.

He left training on Thursday 14 May, and subsequent tests confirmed a rupture of the ACL graft in his right knee.

It is a major setback after he had fully recovered from an ACL tear in the same knee suffered in a friendly against Racing last August, which also required surgery. He had returned from a loan at CD Mirandés with added responsibility. Prados was also operated on for the same problem, and Sannadi for a meniscus issue.

Egiluz was named in some squads by Valverde during the run-in of the last league campaign, but the recovery of Laporte and the return of Yeray kept him in reserve. He now faces another spell of rehabilitation before aiming to return to the pitch.
