As reported via FT, Eintracht Frankfurt are set to sign versatile Saint-Étienne defender Niels Nkounkou.
After a long wait for a transfer away from the French second division, Nkounkou looks to have finally found his move to the Bundesliga. Die Adler have agreed on a €8.5m fee with Les Verts for the services of the left-wingback.
Saint-Étienne had previously rejected a number of offers for the 22-year-old, most notably €6m, but Eintracht’s persistence has paid off. Nkounkou would also play his part in ensuring a move to Germany after commenting a few days ago: “I said it on the last league matchday and many times since: I have the ambition to play first class.”
Last season, Nkounkou featured 20 times for the French outfit after completing a move from Everton in January. During his time in Ligue 2, the 22-year-old scored six goals and collected eight assists prompting the interest of Die Adler.
So far this summer, the Eagles have arguably enjoyed the best transfer window out of any other Bundesliga side. With Randal Kolo Muani still under contract, despite concrete interest from PSG, the ten signings Frankfurt have made thus far means they could be one of the most exciting sides to watch in the Bundesliga next season.
