Frankfurt have put together a five-game unbeaten league run since losing 3-0 to Bayern Munich at the start of October. In fact, die Adler have taken maximum points from their previous two Bundesliga outings, edging out Mainz 05 via a 1-0 scoreline, before claiming a 4-3 away victory over FC Köln last weekend.
However, they were unable to take their domestic form into their midweek Champions League clash against Atalanta. Frankfurt shipped three goals in a disastrous five-minute period as they slumped to a 3-0 loss at Deutsche Bank Park, leaving them stuck on four points in the league phase. As a result, die Adler finished the matchday in 28th spot and two points adrift of the top-24, giving them significant work to do in their final three matches if they are to reach the knockout rounds.
Frankfurt will now turn their focus back to domestic matters, with Dino Toppmöller’s side sitting in sixth place in the Bundesliga table. Die Alder may be unbeaten in three meetings with Wolfsburg, but they have not won a head-to-head game at home since April 2021.
Jonathan Burkardt is set for a spell on the sidelines after sustaining a muscle injury in the defeat to Atalanta. The hosts are also without the services of Hugo Larsson and Can Uzun.
Predicted lineup: Zetterer; Kristensen, Koch, Theate; Doan, Skhiri, Chaïbi, Brown; Götze; Jović, Silva
Wolfsburg are currently without a permanent head coach after Paul Simonis was relieved of his duties before the international break. The club’s hierarchy felt that Simonis could not continue after overseeing six defeats in 10 league games (W2, D2). Unfortunately for die Wölfe, interim boss Daniel Bauer was unable to spark a change in fortunes in the club’s recent home outing against Bayer Leverkusen. Bauer’s charges conceded three goals in the first period, and while Denis Vavro pulled a goal back before the hour mark, it ultimately proved to be a mere consolation.
As a result of their poor form, Wolfsburg are sitting just outside the bottom three in the Bundesliga table. In fact, they are only above 16th-placed Heidenheim on goal difference and just a point clear of St. Pauli in 17th spot.
They are preparing for a tricky test against Frankfurt, although they may be able to draw some inspiration from the fact that both of their two league wins have taken place on the road. They have also avoided defeat in their last four away meetings with die Adler.
The visitors are unable to call upon Rogério, Joakim Mæhle, Kilian Fischer, Kevin Paredes, Moritz Jenz and Bence Dárdai. There are also doubts surrounding the availability of Adam Daghim and Jesper Lindstrøm.
Predicted lineup: Grabara; Kumbedi, Vavro, Koulierakis, Zehnter; Arnold, Gerhardt, Majer; Wimmer, Amoura, Pejčinović
