Eirik Bakke believes Leeds United are heading back towards elite status. “I really feel that Leeds are on the right track now,” he said, speaking to The Peacock News.
For the second time since 2020, Leeds survived the newly-promoted season as Farke followed Marcelo Bielsa’s example. Safety was clinched with games to spare after a rough patch, and 14th place arguably underplayed their campaign.
The Norwegian spent seven years at Elland Road, racking up 195 appearances. He featured 15 times in the Champions League as Leeds reached the 2000/01 semi-finals.
“If you want to be good on the pitch, you also need to have a good organisation. The system is professional, and I have great faith that we are on our way back as a top club.”
He praised the intensity and the Elland Road surge, notably in the physical 3-1 win over Chelsea. “I like the way we play,” he said. “When we cheer for corners at Elland Road, then we are on the right track.”
With chairman Paraag Marathe and captain Ethan Ampadu urging hard work to become established, Bakke set his sights high. “Next season we have to establish ourselves among the top 10 teams in the Premier League,” he said. “I am absolutely sure we will achieve that.” “I have a great appreciation for the way Daniel Farke leads. He is a nice guy who is absolutely right for Leeds as the club is now run by sensible and down-to-earth owners.”
