Benfica continue to recognise the 17-year-old Gilberto Mora’s potential but do not see a move as realistic this summer, viewing the deal as too complicated at present.
According to Ekrem Konur, Benfica and Borussia Dortmund have held talks with agent Rafaela Pimenta to understand the terms of a possible transfer. Benfica are said to have made initial exploratory contact for the Club Tijuana midfielder, who is valued at about €25 million. No formal offer has been made by Benfica at this stage.
Even so, the hierarchy led by Rui Costa considers a deal practically unviable now, so Benfica are likely to stay out of a race that also includes strong competition from Borussia Dortmund.
As things stand, despite those initial contacts, Mora is expected to remain away from Estádio da Luz this summer.
Following a standout 2026 World Cup, interest from leading clubs has grown markedly, with Borussia Dortmund among the principal candidates for his signature.
