Souffian El Karouani is poised to join Benfica on a season-long loan from Al Qadsiah, with the agreement close to being finalised. Asharq Al-Awsat reports that the clubs have practically concluded the deal.

The left-back is due to sign the loan contract on Saturday 29 August, the planned date for formalising the move.

The Morocco international will cover the left flank, an area the club had been monitoring. He will compete with José Neto and Samuel Dahl. The loan runs for one season, giving Marco Silva another option.

His situation in Saudi Arabia helped smooth the process. Al Qadsiah did not register him after reaching the quota on foreign players. The squad has 14 overseas players, but only 8 can be listed.

El Karouani departs just three months after arriving at Al Qadsiah on a free transfer. Benfica have moved to address a position of need with an experienced profile.
