El Shaarawy is returning home.
Not to Rome, but to where it all began. Sixteen years later, the Pharaoh is ready to wear the Genoa jersey again.
An agreement has been reached, and the former Giallorossi player has chosen to start over at Marassi, accepting the advances of Daniele De Rossi.
After a summer spent as a free agent, El Shaarawy has found a solution to continue his career at the highest levels.
A choice that brings him back to the city and club where he took his first steps in top-flight football, before leaving Genoa in 2010.
As reported by La Gazzetta dello Sport, the official announcement is expected between today and tomorrow.
First, there will be a medical and the signing of the contract, the final steps before officially launching his second Rossoblu adventure. In Genoa, he will be reunited with De Rossi, this time as coach.
The two shared several years at Roma and are now ready to cross paths again, but in completely different roles.
His return to the pitch could come very soon. As early as Friday, El Shaarawy could receive a first call-up, even if only a symbolic one, for the match against Como.
