Elche paid pre-match tribute to Mikel Oyarzabal at Martínez Valero, recognising the Real Sociedad captain's World Cup triumph with Spain.
According to Diario Vasco, club president Joaquín Buitrago presented the forward with a commemorative plaque shortly before kick-off.

The presentation took place after both starting line-ups had been announced, in the moments immediately preceding the match.
Buitrago congratulated Oyarzabal, they shook hands, and the home crowd responded with warm applause.
Oyarzabal helped Spain win the World Cup in the United States, Canada and Mexico, delivering an impressive tournament and scoring five goals to rank among the leading scorers.
