Real Madrid will go level on points with Barcelona at the top of La Liga if they defeat Elche at the Estadio Manuel Martínez Valero on Tuesday. Jose Mourinho’s side are coming off the back of successive home victories against Inter Milan and Rayo Vallecano, but they must out things right on the road, given they lost their last away fixture to Real Betis.
It’s not been a perfect start to the season for Real Madrid, but things are starting to click under Mourinho. Kylian Mbappe has been in fantastic goalscoring form, and he has been supported by the likes of Jude Bellingham, Arda Guler and Vinicius Junior – and all of them will hope to make an impact against Elche on Tuesday.
Real Madrid will start as heavy favourites for this one, and understandably so given that Elche have yet to pick up a victory in any of their five matches to start the season. However, they did hold Los Blancos to a 2-2 draw in the 2025-26 campaign, although the two players that scored (Aleix Febas and Alvaro Rodriguez) are no longer at the club.
Nevertheless, they do still have players that can hurt Real Madrid, such as German Valera or Brighton loanee Facundo Buonanotte. The likes of Trent Alexander-Arnold and Dean Huijsen, both of whom could return to the starting line-up, will be tasked with keeping Elche quiet on the way to a hoped clean sheet for Thibaut Courtois.
It promises to be an intriguing encounter at the Estadio Manuel Martínez Valero. Real Madrid should get the job done, but as last season showed, they cannot take anything for granted against Elche, who will be determined to take advantage of any complacency that could creep in for Mourinho’s side. Kick-off is at 9:30pm local time.
