Fabrizio Romano confirms Manchester United will be looking to invest in a new attacker in 2026, but he might not necessarily be Karim Adeyemi.
The Red Devils focused predominantly on enhancing their attacking department last summer. They signed Matheus Cunha, Bryan Mbeumo and Benjamin Mbeumo, while offloading Marcus Rashford, Antony, Alejandro Garnacho, Jadon Sancho and Rasmus Hojlund.
And yet, sources continue to link Man Utd with new forwards. The latest name to land on the shortlist is Borussia Dortmund’s Adeyemi, as recent reports claimed that the Premier League giants held talks with his new agent, Jorge Mendes.
In the latest update posted on his YouTube channel, Romano offered some insights on the situation.
The Italian journalist revealed that United are indeed looking to add another attacker to their ranks, someone capable of filling various roles in the final third, as an attacking midfielder, winger, or centre-forward.
The transfer market expert named some of the attributes that INEOS desire in the aforementioned player, who must be ‘electric, skilful, fast and talented’.
While Romano feels that Adeyemi would fit the bill, he insists that Man Utd have yet to open any talks with the German international or his entourage.
Therefore, the 24-year-old is highly unlikely to seal a move to Old Trafford in January, but he could be one of the profiles to keep an eye on heading to the summer of 2026. Nevertheless, he warns MUFC of competition coming from other suitors, including Napoli, who had already tried to sign him in the past.
Not only is Adeyemi a top-notch talent, but he has also been praised for his ‘extraordinary’ fair-play gesture earlier this season, when he refused to pounce on a counter-attack while an opponent was down injured.
Now the question remains whether or not United should pursue another attacker. Based on the current evidence, Ruben Amorim’s ranks indeed lack another forward. For instance, Benjamin Sesko’s injury has caused a major headache, amidst the lack of an obvious alternative.
While Adeyemi can lead the line, he feels more at home when playing on the wings. Therefore, Man Utd must decide if they want another versatile attacker like Cunha or a natural No.9 to vie with Sesko for a starting berth.
