At the beginning of 2024, Elena Sadiku was working as Academy Head Coach at WSL side Everton. Fast forward six months, and the Swedish coach is now a history maker with Celtic.

The 30-year-old was appointed Head Coach of the Celtic FC Women’s team in the middle of January, and just over four months later she guided the Hoops to their first ever SWPL title.

It has been a whirlwind first few months at the club for the Swede, culminating in a dramatic finale, when Amy Gallacher’s last-gasp goal against Hibernian at Celtic Park gave the Hoops the victory they needed to become Champions of Scotland.

And while she might have only been at Celtic for a short time, Elena Sadiku has already discovered the magical element which flows through the club’s long and illustrious history.

“To win the league at Celtic Park was an unbelievable moment,” she told the Celtic View. “I think this was a perfect end to a fairy tale almost. It just feels like it was meant to be.

“But it was just amazing to see all the fans being so excited and happy because they are a big part of the success and winning this trophy.

'To create history in several different ways, it just goes to show that this club is one which wants to write history.'

“It’s a massive club with good vision and good people around, which can make that happen. I’m very happy to be a part of Celtic history and to be around that.”

It was Amy Gallacher’s late winner which ensured a day of celebration at Paradise, and it was fitting that the team’s top goalscorer should be the player to grab the goal which created Celtic history.

Elena Sadiku said: “I felt like I was pretty calm throughout the game because I know that we can create chances and that we have been scoring a lot of goals.

“When it got to the 85th minute, I was maybe thinking this doesn’t look too bright, but I was really calm during the game.

'It was an unbelievable feeling to see us score the goal in the last minute right at the end of the game.'

“I’m so happy that Amy was the one to score the goal right at the end of the game because she has been proving herself this season. And I’ve also said to her that I don’t believe this is the best that we can do. I still don’t think that she has reached her full potential.

“But she deserved to be the one scoring that goal after the incredible season that she had.”
