Elena Sadiku: We want to showcase who we are against Spartans | OneFootball

Celtic FC Women kick-off their Sky Sports Cup campaign this weekend with an away match against SWPL 2 side Spartans.

The Ghirls go in to the match on the back of an emphatic 4-0 away win over Montrose on Sunday, a fixture which saw Saoirse Noonan return to action and grabbing a goal after recovering from an injury and 17-year old Sienna McGoldrick grabbing her first Celtic goal.

Speaking to Celtic TV ahead of this weekend’s cup tie, manager Elena Sadiku reflected on her side’s performance last weekend and praised the players for their second half display.

She said: “My main takeaway was probably that every time we play a game, we can’t underestimate any team.

“I think we need to manage the games better. The first half was not the best that I’ve seen us play this season.

“It’s just about understanding that all the teams we face will give us different challenges.

“If I was disappointed with the first half, how they came out in the second half was exactly the reaction I wanted to see.

“They done really well so I’m really happy with that and with the result.”

After a positive start to the league season, the Hoops now turn their attention to cup duty and a trip to Ainslie Park to face Spartans on Sunday (K.O 2pm).

As that match against the SWPL 2 side draws closer, the Women’s Head Coach says that she wants her team to use the disappointment of last season’s cup campaigns to spur them on this season.

“It was a huge disappointment to not even reach a cup final last season.” She said. “I think for this season, that’s exactly what we want to do.

“We want to make sure that we try to win silverware for this amazing club. We want to showcase who we want to be this season.

“We aren’t going to underestimate Spartans. They’re unbeaten in their league and they’ll come in with confidence to this game.

“So we want to showcase who we are and play with the intensity that we know we can.”
